about

Bras6 is an album covering the Megaman 6 soundtrack in the style of The Minibosses.

I had been listening to the soundtrack a lot and realized just how overlooked of a game it is (both in terms of gameplay and music). Needing a break from another project I'd been working on for several months, I decided to sit down and try my hand at covering some of the material to have something fresh to work on and finish quickly. I didn't have much desire to rearrange the source material, so a thought hit me - "If I'm gonna just do straight covers, why don't I just make a fake Minibosses album out of it...?"

Pretty much everything about this album is a tribute to Brass. Again, the arrangements are all straight covers - two loops through with some slight variation in the instrumentation on the second loop. Some of the songs are slowed down a bit (in the spirit of The Minibosses vs The NESkimos). However, all of the mixing was attempt to match Brass as well. The drums clip slightly, the hi hat is very up-front in the mix, and the snare has a lot of low end ring to it. The guitars are all double-tracked (2 left, 2 right). I tried to match that scooped laser beam guitar tone, and I played with a more shallow, quick Aaron Burke style vibrato. Occasionally, you'll hear some bass distortion in places as well.

All in all, it was a fun mixing challenge as well as a decent little piece of music to put together. I hope you enjoy it!
